Ethan Nylander
Ethan Nylander ist ein junger professioneller Flötist mit einer aufstrebenden internationalen Karriere. Derzeit hat er eine Akademiestelle bei den Niederrheinischen Sinfonikern in Mönchengladbach, Deutschland, und spezialisiert sich auf das Orchesterspiel. Er trat bereits mit Ensembles wie dem SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart und dem Philharmonischen Orchester Freiburg auf, ebenso wie in den USA mit dem Roanoke Symphony Orchestra und dem River Cities Symphony Orchestra. Zudem nahm er an renommierten Sommerfestivals wie der Lucerne Festival Academy in der Schweiz und dem National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute in Washington, D.C., teil.
Ethan erwarb seinen Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance an der West Virginia University in der Klasse von Nina Assimakopoulos. Derzeit absolviert er seinen Master of Music an der Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in der Klasse von Mario Caroli. Als Fulbright-Stipendiat in Frankreich (2023–2024) erhielt er ein Diplom an der École Normale Supérieure de Musique de Paris in der Klasse von Mihi Kim, ausgezeichnet mit Ehren und Glückwünschen der Jury.
Als Preisträger von mehr als zwanzig nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben wurde Ethan mit höchsten Auszeichnungen geehrt, darunter der Erste Preis beim Dutch International Flute Competition, beim Atlanta Flute Club Young Artist Competition sowie beim National Symphony Orchestra SMI Solo Competition.
2022 trat er als Solist mit dem WVU Symphony Orchestra auf, nachdem er den dortigen Solowettbewerb gewonnen hatte. Darüber hinaus konzertierte er in renommierten Sälen wie dem Concertgebouw Amsterdam, der Weill Recital Hall der Carnegie Hall in New York, der Salle Cortot in Paris und der Kresge Concert Hall in Pittsburgh.
Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Interpret ist Ethan auch als Komponist aktiv. Sein Debütalbum „Métamorphose: Contemporary Solo Works for Low Flutes“ – mit Werken für Alt- und Bassflöte französischsprachiger Komponist:innen, darunter auch einer eigenen Komposition für Bassflöte und Elektronik – ist auf allen gängigen Streaming-Plattformen und auf YouTube verfügbar. Darüber hinaus hat er mehrere eigene Werke geschrieben, aufgeführt und aufgenommen, die ebenfalls auf YouTube zu hören sind.

Ethan Nylander
Ethan Nylander is a young professional flutist with an emerging international career. Currently with an academy position in the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker in Mönchengladbach, Germany, he specializes in orchestral performance. He has appeared with ensembles such as the SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart and the Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg, as well as in the United States with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and the River Cities Symphony Orchestra. He has attended summer orchestral festivals such as the Lucerne Festival Academy in Switzerland and the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute in Washington, D.C.

A prizewinner in more than twenty national and international competitions, Ethan has earned top honors including First Prize at the Dutch International Flute Competition, the Atlanta Flute Club Young Artist Competition, and the National Symphony Orchestra SMI Solo Competition.
He also performed solo with the WVU Symphony Orchestra in 2022 as a concerto competition winner, and has performed in recital at prestigious venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York, Salle Cortot in Paris, and Kresge Concert Hall in Pittsburgh.
In addition to performing, Ethan is active as a composer. His debut album, Métamorphose: Contemporary Solo Works for Low Flutes — featuring works for alto and bass flute by French-speaking composers, including one of his own compositions for bass flute and electronics — is available on streaming platforms and YouTube. He has written, performed, and recorded several more of his own works, which can also be heard on YouTube.
