Néstor Daniel Álvarez González
ist ein venezolanischer Flötist und Piccoloflötist, der 1996 in Barquisimeto geboren wurde.
Werdegang und Ausbildung
Álvarez blickt auf eine erfolgreiche Laufbahn in renommierten Orchestern und akademischen Institutionen in Europa zurück.
Orchestertätigkeit: Er war zunächst als Flötenpraktikant und anschließend als Solo-Piccolist mit Zeitvertrag bei den Duisburger Philharmonikern sowie an der Deutschen Oper am Rhein tätig. Seit 2024 ist er dort festes Mitglied. Darüber hinaus gastierte er unter anderem beim Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, beim Beethoven Orchester Bonn, am Staatstheater Braunschweig, bei den Essener Philharmonikern und bei den Mannheimer Philharmonikern.
Lehrtätigkeit: Als Dozent für Piccoloflöte unterrichtet er am Freiburg Flute Studio der Hochschule für Musik Freiburg.
Ausbildung
Álvarez absolvierte sein Bachelorstudium an der Hochschule für Musik Straßburg in Frankreich sowie sein Masterstudium an der Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, jeweils in der Klasse von Prof. Mario Caroli. Darüber hinaus spezialisierte er sich auf Piccoloflöte am Conservatoire de Clamart in Paris bei Pierre Dumail sowie am Conservatoire de Strasbourg bei Sandrine Poncet.
In Venezuela studierte er an der Lateinamerikanischen Flötenakademie in Caracas bei Raimundo Pineda und Gabriel Cano. Von 2008 bis 2016 war er außerdem Schüler von Pedro Eustache.
Derzeit setzt er seine Ausbildung im Fach Traversflöte beziehungsweise Barockflöte bei Michael Schmidt-Casdorff an der Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen fort.
Kulturmanagement
Er ist Gründer und künstlerischer Leiter von Festivals wie „Créations et Explorations“ (2018), dem „Kammermusik- und Flötenfestival Äquator“ (2019) sowie dem „Lara Flute Festival“ (2015). Diese Festivals widmen sich der Förderung zeitgenössischer Musik, neuer Spieltechniken auf der Flöte und des interkulturellen künstlerischen Austauschs.
Konzerttätigkeit und Kammermusik
Als Flötist und Traversflötist trat Álvarez mit verschiedenen Sinfonie- und Kammerorchestern auf, darunter das Kammerorchester der Duisburger Philharmoniker, die Kammerphilharmonie Köln, Kammermusik CRF in Ecuador, das Jugendorchester Franco Medina, das Kammerorchester Amadeus sowie das Orquesta Sinfónica de Lara in Venezuela.
Sein Repertoire reicht von der historischen Aufführungspraxis über interdisziplinäre Projekte und Musik des 21. Jahrhunderts bis hin zu Alter Musik auf modernen und historischen Instrumenten. Darüber hinaus widmet er sich intensiv der Uraufführung zeitgenössischer Werke, unter anderem von Elvis Suárez, Rafael Asurmendi, Annette Schlünz, Omar Rojas und Marcos Govea.

Career and Education
Álvarez has established a successful career with renowned orchestras and academic institutions across Europe.
Orchestral career: He initially worked as a flute trainee and subsequently as a temporary solo piccolo player with the Duisburg Philharmonic and at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He has been a permanent member there since 2024. He has also performed as a guest with ensembles including the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, Staatstheater Braunschweig, Essen Philharmonic and Mannheim Philharmonic.
Teaching: He teaches piccolo at the Freiburg Flute Studio of the University of Music Freiburg.
Education
Álvarez completed his bachelor’s degree at the Strasbourg University of Music in France and his master’s degree at the University of Music Freiburg, studying in the class of Prof. Mario Caroli at both institutions. He also specialised in piccolo at the Conservatoire de Clamart in Paris with Pierre Dumail and at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg with Sandrine Poncet.
In Venezuela, he studied at the Latin American Flute Academy in Caracas with Raimundo Pineda and Gabriel Cano. From 2008 to 2016, he was also a student of Pedro Eustache.
He is currently continuing his studies in traverso, or Baroque flute, with Michael Schmidt-Casdorff at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
Cultural Management
He is the founder and artistic director of festivals including “Créations et Explorations” (2018), the “Equator Chamber Music and Flute Festival” (2019) and the “Lara Flute Festival” (2015). These festivals are dedicated to promoting contemporary music, new flute techniques and intercultural artistic exchange.
Concert and Chamber Music Activities
As a flutist and traverso player, Álvarez has performed with various symphony and chamber orchestras, including the Chamber Orchestra of the Duisburg Philharmonic, the Cologne Chamber Philharmonic, Kammermusik CRF in Ecuador, the Franco Medina Youth Orchestra, the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Lara in Venezuela.
His repertoire ranges from historically informed performance practice and interdisciplinary projects to 21st-century music and early music performed on both modern and historical instruments. He is also strongly committed to premiering contemporary works, including compositions by Elvis Suárez, Rafael Asurmendi, Annette Schlünz, Omar Rojas and Marcos Govea.
